App and Away

This year’s edition of the Grossglockner Berglauf uphill race, which took place on 15 July 2018, was a great success: once again, top athletes from around the world proved their prowess in the Hohe Tauern Mountains – running from the village of Heiligenblut to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. Even if you didn’t make it to this year’s event, you can still bring the spirit of this unique competition to life this summer: with our special stop-watch app, you can measure your performance on the official Berglauf route – and pit yourself against the competition’s past participants.

Choose from two stop-watch routes

As of this summer, you can use the Berglauf app on two different routes. Since 2016, aspiring athletes have been able to measure their performance on the original Berglauf route to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. This is still in place – so if you have missed this year’s event, you can simply enter into your own, private Berglauf race anytime you like.  In addition, you can now do the same along the ‘Naturgerfahrentrail’ hiking path, which leads from the ‘Mittelstation Rossbach’ cableway station to the cableway’s ‘Bergstation Schareck’ summit station. With an elevation gain of 900 metres, this route is not only a fantastic training route, but also offers stunning views in the most glorious natural surroundings.

The time of your life

Dedicated athletes are usually keen to know how fast they can navigate a certain distance. Most of all, they are aware that a precise performance analysis is the key to efficient training. Our new stop-watch route is designed to optimise this process. And besides, whatever your personal ambitions may be: the uphill run from the Rossbach to the Schareck cableway station is both physically and scenically rewarding – and culminates in a well-deserved break at the summit restaurant, with spectacular views of the 3,798-metre-high peak of the Grossglockner.

Going APP!

Treat yourself to a great workout, enjoy nature and keep track of your training progress – all at the same time: simply download the ‘meinberglauf’ app to your Android or iOS device, activate the ‘tracking’ function as you set out, and stop the timer when you reach the finishing line (either at the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe or the Schareck summit station, depending on your chosen route). You can then compare your best time with the official race results on meinberglauf.at. Sophisticated time-keeping and training methods aside: the true reason athletes from all around the world love Heiligenblut is the extraordinary beauty of our mountains and the chance to train in stunning natural surroundings. So remember to absorb the power of nature and the scenery around you – this will put an extra spring in your step!

“I spent a long time training for the Grossglockner Berglauf race, and finally managed to take part this year. I’m proud to have succeeded in running the route to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe – it really does push you to your limits. Having trained on the stop-watch routes in Heiligenblut, I knew what to expect. In fact, I was so well-prepared that, despite the physical effort, I was still able to enjoy some of the beautiful scenery along the way!”
